How to open Visual Studio Code(VSCode) from terminal?

Follow below steps, if you have installed VSCode recently on MAC and you want to open VSCode from terminal by just typing code command

  1. open VSCode
  2. press cmd+shift+p on MAC to open the Command Palette
  3. type shell install and choose option Shell Command: Install 'code' command in PATH

Shell Command: Install 'code' command in PATH
Shell Command: Install 'code' command in PATH

This will create a symlink as shown in image below

vscode symlink
vscode symlink


Now you can go to any directory on terminal and type code . to open current directory in VSCode. You could also simply use shortcut code to launch VSCode. To open file in current directory with VSCode, type code filename.ext
